Showing posts with the label mistake

Sorry!

Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia once appointed a judge who turned out to be inept and corrupt.  He was forced to leave the bench.  Who asked about the affair by a reporter, LaGuardia replied, "When I make a mistake, it is a beauty!" It takes  a mensch to know when you are wrong and a great mensch to acknowledge it.

Let Go

What to do when we make mistakes: 1. Apologize. 2. Forgive Yourself. 3. Move on. Margaret Mead gave so many addresses that she once became confused.  She gave a a lecture on "Sexual Deviation among Tribal Members in Malaysia" to clergy (she thought she was addressing cultural anthropologists).   -Rev. Duncan King  I hope the clergy learned much that day that they would otherwise never know. I also hope Dr Mead gave herself the gift of personal forgiveness.

On Mistakes

In a drunk driving case, the defense lawyer was questioning the toxicologist who had analyzed the defendant's blood alcohol level.  "You do not suggest to the jury that you don't make mistakes, do you?" the lawyer asked. "I'm not suggesting that I do, either," the expert replied. "Well, tell them," the attorney pressed, "do you ever make mistakes? There was a pause. "Well, I've been married three times." There is an old expression that if everyone in the world threw their tsooris (pain) in a pile and you could pick up whichever one you wanted, you'd invariably pick your own. What is the moral? Be happy with your imperfections.  It just means you are not God.

Watch Your Anger

Deciding to have pizza for dinner, I called one of the pizza houses in the neighborhood and ordered a jumbo deluxe.  I told the person on the other end of the line that I'd pick it up in 30 minutes. When I arrived, my mouth watering for hot pizza, I was told that my order had never been received.  Furious, I lectured the young waiter on the poor service before storming out. On the way home, I stopped at a competing pizza shop and requested a jumbo deluxe.  "That's funny," the young man said as he took my order.  "You're the second person named Collins to order the same pizza in the last 45 minutes.  I don't think the other guy is going to show."  - Dave Collins Be very careful before "telling someone off."
