Traveling Through Life Together

Count Patotsky, a proselyte from Vilna, had a friend Zaremba who followed Patotsky’s idea – he and his wife had converted to the Jewish faith. After they become Jews Jews, Zaremba said to his wife, “Let us get a divorce now.  You marry a real Jew and I’ll marry a Jewess, and in that manner we will be rooted into the Jewish race.” Zaremba’s wife smiled wisely. “Two people were once stranded in a desert,” she said, “and lost their path.  They wandered aimlessly together, suffered hunger and thirst and were tortured by the burning sand and blistering sun.  Finally, a miracle happened and they found the road back to civilization.  When they reached their destination, they clasped each other’s hands and said, ‘When we lost our way we suffered great pain and agony together.  Now that we have found a place of refuge, is it wise that we should part?  Is it fair’?” Hold hands with the ones you love.  Do not let go.

Hold Us!

A little girl and her father were crossing a flimsy bridge. The father was scared so he asked his little daughter: "Sweetheart, please hold my hand so that you don't fall into the river." The little girl said, "No, Dad. You hold my hand." "What's the difference?" asked the puzzled father. "There is a big difference," replied the little girl. "Dad, if I hold your hand and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go. But, if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let go." Dear Heavenly Father, never let us go.

For His Sake

"One should use one’s face, hands, and feet only to honor one’s Creator.” –Tosefta, Berachot 4:1 Does this really mean this is the only use we are to make of out body?   Yes.   Every action ought to be considered as God is concerned about everything we do.   And it is so.

A Simple Prayer of Food

Dear God, help me break My desire to eat too much. Instead, let me eat and drink just enough To be strong and fulfill Your will. May I be worthy of sharing my food with guests, Particularly those who are in need. Protect me always from forbidden foods Since they bring impurity to my soul. Help me fulfill, dear God, the mitzvah Of washing my hands for meals, Which purifies my hands And draws down Your holiness upon me. May I please say the blessings before and after eating With concentration and devotion. Grant me the ability To eat in holiness, As this calms my mind And allows me to be in charge of what I do. Please God, when I eat, Let me have You in my thoughts. And then, through eating, I can reach true understanding . -Between Me and You
