A Soulful Journey

“A “David” has fewer moral qualms than a “Goliath.”  - Yehoshafat Harkabi To think, consider, requires more energy as it means reflecting on the repercussions of everything we do.  Bad people have no such concerns.  Think like a David, not like a Goliath.  Kindness,  rachamim, is our "call" from God.

"The ideal man has the strength of a man and the compassion of a woman."  -Zohar Archetypes do not always work in reality but the force of this statement is clear:  We must never be so inflexible as not not see the other side.

“Who is strong?" "The person who is able to control his passions.” -Avot 4:1

There are ten strong things in the world Rock is strong but iron breaks it. Iron is strong but fire melts it. Fire is strong but water extinguishes it. Water is strong but clouds carry it. Clouds are strong but the winds carry them. Wind id strong but man withstands it. Man is strong but fear weakens him. Fear is strong but wine removes it. Wine is strong but sleep overcomes it. Sleep is strong but death stands over it. What is stronger than death? Tzedakah.   As it is written, " Tzedakah delivers from death.”   - Baba Batra 10a

Past Israeli cabinet minister, David Levy, gets in a cab.  As the cab drives off, the cabbie asks the man if he has heard the latest David Levy joke. Levi angrily replies, “I am David Levy!” “That’s alright,” the cabbie says, “I’ll tell it slow!” Would you could you, laugh if you were David Levy?  When we can laugh at our own foibles we will have mastered our ego.  That is power!
