Right

A couple experiencing marital problems went to see a rabbi.  The man complained that his wife did not take care of him. "Du bis gericht," (you are right) declared the rabbi. Then the wife objected that her husband did not appreciate her. "Du bis gericht," declared the rabbi. "But how can we both be right, rabbi?" "Du bis gericht."  -Rabbi Louis Jacobs There are time when everyone is right.  The solution must be found in compromising.

On Being Correct

“…he once engaged an innkeeper in a bitter argument over the price charged for his room. The difference between what he had been told and what he was being charged was less than a shilling….once he had won the argument, Hitchcock summoned up by huge quantity of expensive champagne for everyone and cast and crew.”   from "The Life of Alfred Hitchcock" Sometimes, for some people, it is not about the amount but the victory of being correct.

Return

“In the evening, I make a list of the mistakes I made during the day and the people I insulted, and I look for ways to correct it,” he said. “In the morning, I make a list of the dreams I have and try to realize them." -Shimon Peres
