When Bobby Bonilla appeared on the Arsenio Hall Show he was asked about his childhood heroes. “My real hero was my dad,” he said. “He always provided for me and kept me off the streets.” Then – to applause – he scolded parents today for encouraging their kids to idolize sports figures instead of parents, the real heroes. Later, Bonilla reported, “I have a real problem with the whole notion that baseball players are role models. Your role models are really the people who are at home.”
