Instrument of Peace

God, make me an instrument of Your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
wherer there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

That I may seek to console rather than receive;
to be consoled, to understand rather than to be understood;
to love rather than to be loved.

For it is in giving that we received;
in self-forgetfulness that we find our true selves,
in forgiving that we are forgiven,
in dying that we are raised up to life ever-lasting.
God, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
