The Kotzker Rebbe once said, “Better a rasha (evil person) who knows he's a rasha than a tzaddik (righteous one) who knows he’s a tzaddik."
You can repent, do teshuvah, if you know you have erred but if you are total tzaddik, what is there to repent?
