Maurice Samuels, featured on the "Eternal Light" television series
was discussing the difference between the Jewish Bible and the Christian
Bible. In our Tanakh, the Prophets come
before the Writings. In the Christian
arrangement, the Prophets come last.
Maurice Samuels gave this explanation: For the Christian Bible it is
necessary to conclude with the destruction of the Jews and Judaism, in order to
lead into the New Testament with its message of the New Covenant replacing the
old, redemption following upon the destruction of the old Israel. Therefore, Malachi at the end of the “Old Testament”
is perfect. “When I come I will strike
the whole land with destruction.”
“Between 1305 and the early 1800’s. the House of Taxis ran a form of pony express service all over Europe…. Its couriers clad in blue and silver uniforms, crisscrossed the continent carrying messages between princes and generals, merchants and money lenders.” –Alvin Toffler, The Third Wave We may think we are the first generation consumed by rapid communication but we are not. Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
