The Center of Universe

When Rabbi Joshua ben Hannania went to Athens to dispute with the philosophers, they asked him many questions and he answered them all successfully. One of the questions they posed was: where is the center of the universe? Rabbi Joshua pointed with this forefinger to spot right in front of him and said: "Here it is, this is the center of the universe!"
They asked him how he knew he was right and he answered them by saying, "Well, bring your measuring rods and see for yourself."

Most people believe that the center of the universe is where ever they happen to be standing. But we Jews know better!

Our universe is bipolar! There were two central points of reference the Jews have recognized throughout history.  What is the center of the universe we greed each morning when we look at ourselves in the mirror and the other, the one we recognize when we peer into a more distant and see the land of Israel. For us, there is the land where we make our homes and then, there is our homeland, Eretz Yisrael.  -Rabbi Bradley Bleefeld

“Between 1305 and the early 1800’s. the House of Taxis ran a form of pony express service all over Europe….   Its couriers clad in blue and silver uniforms, crisscrossed the continent carrying messages between princes and generals, merchants and money lenders.” –Alvin Toffler, The Third Wave We may think we are the first generation consumed by rapid communication but we are not.   Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
