Where am I?

Rabbi Hanoch told this story:
There was a man who was very stupid.  When he got up in the morning it was so hard for him to find his clothes that at night he hesitated to go to bed for thinking the trouble he would have on waking.  One evening, he finally made a great effort, took paper and pencil, and as he undressed he noted down exactly where he put everything he had on.  The next morning very well pleased with himself, he took up the skip of paper in his hand and read: "trousers" - there they lay, he got into them and so it went until he was fully dressed.  "That's all very well, but now where am I myself?" he asked in great consternation.  "Where in the world am I?"  He looked and looked, but it was a vain search; he could not find himself.  "And that is how it is with us," said the rabbi.

This is our task.

“Between 1305 and the early 1800’s. the House of Taxis ran a form of pony express service all over Europe….   Its couriers clad in blue and silver uniforms, crisscrossed the continent carrying messages between princes and generals, merchants and money lenders.” –Alvin Toffler, The Third Wave We may think we are the first generation consumed by rapid communication but we are not.   Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
