The Talmud tells us in turn that Hakhnasat Orhim (welcoming passersby) is
a greater mitzvah than receiving a direct revelation from God. -Shabbat 127A.

Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
