Thanksgiving

A snippet of the history of Thanksgiving:
In 1843 Governor James Hammond proposed a Thanksgiving message calling for special prayers "to God and his son, Jesus Christ, the redeemer of the world."  The Jewish community of Charleston, South Carolina, objected but Hammond, undeterred, ignored their protests.  For that period, Thanksgiving went unobserved by the Jewish community.
