Look to See

Once Israel Salanter was staying at an inn and with two colleagues. The weather was frigid and Rabbi Israel saw through the window a maid fetching water in two buckets suspended from a yoke over her shoulders. He saw how she struggled with them.
When suppertime came the three guests went to wash their hands before the meal. The friends noticed that Rabbi Israel took only a single glass of water to wash his hands well they used nearly a quart. His friends later asked him why he used the water so sparingly. He said, one should not be over strict in his observance when it comes at the expense of someone else.

Religion and faith are about our relationship with God. But if it comes at the expense of treating people poorly what good is it?
Look around and see how others are being treated.
