Rabbi Yehiel Mikhal said: “It is written: ‘Who shall ascend
onto the mountain of the Lord? And who
shall stand in His holy place?’ For the
sake of comparison, let us take a man who rides up a mountain in his carriage,
and when he is half-way up, the horses are tired and he must stop and give them
a rest. Now, whoever has no sense at this
point, will roll down. But he who has
sense will take a stone and put it under the wheel while the carriage is
standing. Then he will be able to reach the
top. The man who does not fall, when he
is forced to interrupt his service, but knows how to pause, he will get to the
top of the mountain of the Lord.”
-Buber, Early Masters
“Between 1305 and the early 1800’s. the House of Taxis ran a form of pony express service all over Europe…. Its couriers clad in blue and silver uniforms, crisscrossed the continent carrying messages between princes and generals, merchants and money lenders.” –Alvin Toffler, The Third Wave We may think we are the first generation consumed by rapid communication but we are not. Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
