Together we Create

When World War I ended, President Wilson came before this country to join the League of Nations.  He wanted to organize the world for peace and asked the United States to be a part of it.  While other nations joined, the United States did not.  Senators debated the merits of joining and found flaws in it.  They pointed to faulty wording and suspicious details.  Because it was imperfect they rejected it.
The "perfectionists" did not allow us to join in the new experiment.  After World War II the United Nations was formed and our country joined.  Many editorialists were deeply critical of the charter or the United Nations.  Some urged us to withdraw because it was not perfect.

It is hard to accept new realities.  Yet, to close our eyes to them is to have partial vision.

Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
