To Know or Not to Know

A German assimilated Jew  heard about Moshe the Apikores in a small town in Poland.
He decides to go and meet him.
He gets to the town and looks around for Moshe bu cannot find anyone among all the people who appears to be Moshe the Apikores.
Eventually he approaches and asks someone where he can find Moshe the Apikores.
He pointed to one of the shteibelech in the town and is told Moshe is there.
He goes in and sees a bunch of people learning.
He asks and is directed to Moshe.
He greets him and asks "Are you Moshe the Apikores?" and Moshe answers "Yes."
He asks, "If you are Moshe the Apikores why are you here learning?"
Moshe answers "I may be known as Moshe the Apikores but I do not wish to be known as Moshe the Am Ha-retz!"

“Between 1305 and the early 1800’s. the House of Taxis ran a form of pony express service all over Europe….   Its couriers clad in blue and silver uniforms, crisscrossed the continent carrying messages between princes and generals, merchants and money lenders.” –Alvin Toffler, The Third Wave We may think we are the first generation consumed by rapid communication but we are not.   Throughout our history it has been a priority. Of course, now in the 21 st century we must ask: are we better or worse for it?
