The Ego of Leadership

John F. Kennedy used to tell the story of when he met with Lyndon Johnson and Hubert Humphrey before the Democratic National Convention. Kennedy said, “I had a dream last night. God himself was anointing me and He said, “You shall be the next president.”
Hubert Humphrey piped in, “I also had a dream that God anointed me as the next president.”
“Funny,” said Lyndon, “I don’t remember doing that.”
It seems as though being a big leader and having a big ego walk hand-in-hand.
