Rabbi Jacob Isaac of Lublin
had a shrewish wife. She nagged at him constantly
yet he restrained himself. He suffered in
silence. At last one day when his patience
wore thin, he retorted with some sharp words.
When his friend, Rabbi Bunam heard, he was shocked.

“It would have been cruel not to answer her. What irritated her more than anything else
was the fact that I did not respond to her nagging."
